Field Trial Results:

The trial was conducted over multiple walks across varying terrain from fells to peaks and in some challenging conditions including high winds, sub-zero conditions, driving rain.  These walks were up to 18 miles in length.

The jacket worked particular well, and some of the standout features were found to be:

  • Thermal qualities in -40C with -70C wind chill.
  • Wind blocking qualities were very good, no penetration of material even when at Trig Points when holding on.
  • Insulation – the DUROloft material is this thin and light weight but performs particularly well.
  • The breathability was very good. When ascending up steep inclines no moisture collected in the jacket.
  • The writs cuffs with the inner cuffs worked well and it was easy to fit larger gloves in the cuffs.
  • The soft material around the collar was welcome.

Conclusion:

Overall the jacket worked practically well and the combination of features and materials used added to a great days walking.

What could have been better?  Not a great deal, the waist band of a back pack partially covers the hip pockets, although this is not a great problem as these are used infrequently on a day’s trekking and you have a large breast pocket for easy access.
