Alnwick – Alnwick Castle & Cloudy Crags (9.5 miles)
We start the walk from the War Memorial and Tenanty Column (Video 0.53) in Alnwick, heading down the B1340 towards Denwick Bridge, which crosses the River Aln. On the way we pass the entrance to Alnwick Garden and The Treehouse. After crossing the bridge (Video 2.35) we head west across the fields, where we have magnificent views of Alnwick Castle. We need to cross the River Aln once again, at The Lion Bridge (Video 3.30).
Shortly after crossing the bridge we head along Watergate, passing St Michael’s Church, before heading onto a wooded track (Video 4.30). We need to follow the map, or if you have downloaded the OS App, the GPS route.
Joining the long stone wall on out right (Video 5.20), we start our gentle climb to the summit of Cloudy Crags and Brizlee Woods radar station (Video 7.40).
Leaving Cloudy Crags we follow the single track road, with great views of the Pennines to the north (Video 8.30). When we get to the road we bear left (Video 9.15) and follow the mapped route. After joining the B6341 we head south (Video 11.10) across the fields once again, eventually trekking Alnwickdown the side of Alnwick Castle Golf Club (Video 13.10). Then following the mapped route to get us back to our start point, followed by a look around Alnwick (Video 13:50)
