Four Mile Beach & Flagstaff Hill – Port Douglas (3 miles)
The walk starts at the northern end of 4 Mile Beach. This leisurely walk is the most popular in Port Douglas as it is the only route actually in the township. The trail head north along the path and climbs up the stepped path, where there are some spectacular views across 4 Mile Beach (Video 2:00). The trail takes us through rain forest vegetation (Video 2:15), there are some steeper inclines along the way, but it is well worth it. At the end of the headland trail we come to lookout point (Video 4:20) and the estuary to Packers Creek.
We continue to Anzac Park and the historic church of St Mary’s by the Sea, dating back to 1881 (Video 5:00). Continue, we come to the marina area, where there are cafes, a retail area and public conveniences, as we continue past the beautiful Marina itself (Video 5:40). The route takes us past the mangroves on our right, before we cross the main road into Port Douglas, and our route back to 4 Mile Beach (Video 7:00). When we reach the beach, through the shoreline palm trees, we head north once again towards the conclusion of our walk.
There are a number of option to stop at the end of the walk, such as The Surfy or Hi Tide Café-Bar, to sit and reflect on what has been a very enjoyable walk.
