Simonside Hills Circular in the Northumberland National Park.
The classic Simonside Hills 5.5 miles forest and fells walk in the Northumberland National Park with stunning views along the way.
We start the walk at the Simonside Car Park in the woods (see start point link). As we have the trail map display ahead of us, we head west along the forest trail, climbing slightly as we go. When the walk was undertaken there was considerable devastation witnessed from Storm Arwen, which had devastated many areas in the North East of England. As we continue along the forest trail, we head out of the forested area and start to witness some of the stunning views along the way. We continue to climb gently as we go. It is worth checking the map as you go, as there are a number of tracks heading further West.
As we climb up onto the fells, we start to see Simonside on our left (South East), and we should head towards Simonside itself. This will take us down a wide track to the base, before we ascend. It is a very nice climb up a stepped path to the summit of Simonside. It is worth taking some time to take in the wonderful views which you are offered.
Leaving Simonside we head over the slab paved path, eventually reaching Dove Crag. We then start our decent. We will eventually pick up the single track road taking us West, where we turn left to conclude our walk.
