Turn by Turn Directions

We start this great day walk in the hamlet of Park Village, just south of Haltwhistle, on the outskirts of North Pennine AONB.  Leaving the village (see Video at 1:15) heading along the disused rail track, through the picturesque wooded area.  We come to a minor road junction by Featherstone Park  (see Video at 2:15) and turn right down a single-track road.

We have our first view of Featherstone Castle (see Video at 3:14), with Hartleyburn Common in the background.  Continuing we pick up the River Tyne Trail, along the west bank of the River South Tyne.  This section is very picturesque as we pass Featherstone Castle (see Video at 3:50). As we continue we pass the site of a WWII POW camp 18, where thousands of POWs were held (see Video at 4:40).

We continue on our path reaching the grand Lambley Viaduct (see Video at 6:00).  After crossing the footbridge to the north of the Viaduct, it is worth taking some time to take in the view from the Viaduct itself (see Video at 7:15).

Our route now takes us up onto the fells, as we pick up the route of the Pennine Way (see Video at 8:10).  Ensure that you keep an eye on your navigation, as there are few reference points.  As we pass the remains of High House (see Video at 9:35), a useful reference point, we drop down into the valley crossing Hartley Burn (see Video at 10:05).

The trail follows the route of the Pennine Way until we reach a small bridge at Kellah Burn  (see Video at 11:05).  We now leave the Pennine Way trail, heading up to Kellah and across the fields.  At the single-track intersection, we pass a War Memorial (see Video at 11:45).  Continuing across the fields and fells we come to a footbridge (see Video at 13:05), crossing River South Tyne once again.  We have Featherstone Castle on our right as we head north along the River Tyne Trail.  This is a tranquil section to conclude this walk.  Passing the farm we pick up the sighed trail on our right (see Video at 14:30), which takes us to the conclusion of this walk, which has had so much to offer.
