Day 2 of my journey along the stunning Berwickshire Coastal Path took me from the quaint village of St Abbs to the historic town of Berwick upon Tweed. This picturesque stretch is a true showcase of Scotland’s rugged coastline, with dramatic cliffs, hidden coves, and sweeping sea views.

Turn by Turn Directions
Day 2 of this walk starts at the very picturesque St Abbs Harbour, where day 1 concludes. Leaving the harbour you quickly pick up the signage for the Berwickshire Coastal Path and head south with the beauty of the coastline ahead of us (see Video at 1:50). The path quickly takes us to Coldingham Bay (see Video at 2:30), and the beach was near deserted the day walked the path. Continuing, you come to the stunning cove of Linkim Shore (see Video at 2:50). There is a delightful walk to Eyemouth ahead of us. Before reaching Eyemouth, on the headland, you come to the old fort and two cannons (see Video at 4:30) at Fort Point.
The walk now takes you into Eyemouth, which is worth taking a little time to explore, and you may pick up a Scottish Pie on the way (see Video at 5:00). Walking up the estuary, you cross the bridge and walk up the east side, of Eye Water admiring the boats moored up. Leaving Eyemouth behind you there is a small stretch along the road before picking up the path on our left (see Video at 7:30). You now have the most amazing views along the cliff path. You reach the highest point on the walk, 102 Meters, at Blaikie Heugh (see Video at 9:00), with amazing 360o views. The path now takes us past Fancove Head and Breeches Rocks on our way to Burnmouth.
After seeing Burnmouth from our path (see Video at 10:20), you ascend down a single-track road to the picturesque harbour, where there is considerable local history. Continuing you come to Cowdrait, don’t miss the sign for the path (see Video at 11:30). Climbing out of Cowdrait, the path again takes you along the cliff paths adjacent to the east coast rail line, which does not deter from the magnificence of the walking. You pass Marshal Meadows Nay on your way to Needle Eye (see Video at 13:45). It is always good to take a brief stop and take in the magnificent scenery in all directions.
This is the start of the gradual descent towards Berwick upon Tweed. You will pass Fisherman’s Haven (see Video at 15:15), where you will notice the north pier of the River Tweed. As you approach Berwick you pass signs for the Lowery Trail (see Video at 17:15). The route now takes you to the mouth of the Tweed and you follow the path towards Berwick taking in the Ramparts and Fisher’s Fort (see Video at 18:40). Following the old city wall you end up on the harbour adjacent to the old Berwick Bridge (see Video at 20:30) and opposite the anchor is the conclusion of the Berwickshire Coast Path (as well as the Northumberland Coast Path).
The memories of this walk will stay with you for a long time, for all the right reasons.
