Continuing on, we come to Hawthorne Dene Nature Reserve (see Video at 6:00), which is the second largest coastal Dene in the country. This is a beautiful section of the walk. Continuing on we pass Easington Colliery Nature Reserve (see Video at 7:30), on our right. Continuing on our next point of interest is Fox Holes Dene (see Video at 8:00). As we leave the Dene we get some fantastic views along the dramatic coast line.
As we continue along the top of the cliffs we come to Horton Beach (see Video at 9:50) and Castle Eden Dene National Nature Reserve (see Video at 10:10). We continue along the cliff tops and reach Blue House Gill.
We now have the dramatic cliff scenery of cliff and cave on the beach. It is worth dropping down onto the beach (see Video at 14:30), as there is plenty to explore. As we climb the path of many steps (see Video at 16:30) we come to the end of what has been a great day, as we approach Crimdon Holiday Park.
Whether you’re seeking solitude or companionship, adventure or relaxation, a day on the Durham Heritage Coast Walk offers something for everyone.
