Newton by the Sea to Craster
Leave the car park at High Newton and head down to Low Newton and you will experience the stunning view of Newton and Embelton with Dunstanburgh Castle in the back ground a mouth-watering taster for the walk ahead.
Walk along the beach until you need to climb the dunes and head along to Dunstanbugh Castle, once you have taken in the grandeur of the castle, walk along the open grassed land to reach our destination of Craster. There are many fine eating options.
Craster to Newton by the Sea
Leave Craster and climb the road slightly and there is a wooden sign on the right, climb the hill and follow the trail until you are walking along the along the upper path. Follow the map and video taking in the fine scenery. Once you have pulled back from the coast and walk inland to the farm buildings, bear right and follow the hard path. You will come to a cluster of houses; once you meet the road turn right and head back towards the sea. At the gate bear sharp left and follow the path along the side of Embelton golf course.
Once back to the dunes take the path along behind the dunes, you will eventually come to small lake with a couple of hides, at the right time of year there are an abundance of birds to watch. We are nearing the end of the walk as you will come to Low Newton, I can thoroughly recommend a visit to The Ship if time permits. A gentle walk up the road and a final look back across the bay awaits before heading back to the car after a thoroughly satisfying days outing.
Enjoy a great walk on the North East Coast
