Puerto Pollensa to Cala St Vicenc – Mallorca. Walking a pass and 1000ft climb with stunning views.

A great walk from Puerto Pollensa through the Siller Pass to Cala St Vicenc, where you can stop for refreshments before a return and climb to 1000ft and truly breath-taking views.

Puerto Pollensa to Cala St Vicenc.

We start the walk from Puerto Pollensa Square and Santa Maria del Puerto Pollensa Church, heading up the side towards the main road, where we pass the bus terminal on our right (you can catch a bus and start the walk from here).  We head SW on Av. Via Cintura to the pedestrian lights crossing over to enter The Siller (Video 1:45).  We follow Carrer de les Roses until we reach the fields and mountain views.  We continue for around 100 mtr and turn right towards the Siller Pass (Video 2:05).  We continue straight ahead, passing the boat yard on our left, along a single track road, passing a number of villas.  At the head of the road, we head through the gate and follow the path, leaving the villas behind us.  The climb up to the pass is gentle, but a little steeper as we pass the water house on our left.  We follow numerous cairns along the way.  We are now on the pass itself, continuing along the path.  At the end we appear to come to roundabout, where we need to turn right, signed for Cala Carbo (Video 4:40).

We follow the road as it meanders along the cliffs with stunning views as we go.  We drop down into Cala Carbo before walking around the headland and into Cala St Vicenc.

Cala St Vicenc to the start of the 1000ft (315mtr) climb.

There are plenty of facilities at Cala St Vicenc if you want a break.  We head up towards Pepe’s Bar and come across a set of steps on our left (Video 5:30), which we take passing Hostal Los Pinos and continue on Cami de Can Botana and then Urb. Botana 4.  We are now in the pine woods and follow the tracks, which will take us back to the Siller Pass, which we have already trodden.

You will then need to turn right on the path and continue towards the water hut on our left (Video 7:00).  Opposite is the start of an imposing climb.  Head up the mountain side following the cairns, where they exist.  The terrain underfoot is not too good, so a steady pair of shoes is advisable.  Caution and a good set of lungs is also required along the way.  You will find some scrambling and climbing along the route; don’t forget to take time for the views.

At the 1000ft (315mtr) peak, there is a large pile of stones marking the summit (Video 8:00).  It is time to take a break and appreciate the 360o view.

Peak and return to Puerto Pollensa.

We follow the ridge for 150mtr and head for the 311mtr summit and the second cairn, before starting to descend.  We can see large boat yard down in the valley and need to head towards this area, and the roofs of the villas, below us.  As you descend, you will notice a path/dirt track slightly on our right.  As we descend we need to head towards this path/dirt track.  The whole time we are heading South.  The ground underfoot is not too firm and caution should be taken when descending.

Once we pick up the path/dirt track, which is a relief on the feet, we follow this track down and head past numerous villas on the way.  We get to the Ma2200 road, turning left and heading back to Puerto Pollensa, the only highlight being the view of our walk on our left.

Enjoy, what is a fantastic walk, with a cold drink at the end.
