Turn by Turn Directions

The journey to the start of the walk is memorable in itself.  After parking up (see start location link below) at Greenhill we head down the single-track road with Greenhill on our left (see Video at 1:35).  The path takes us to a very picturesque far of The Yett (see Video at 1:50).  We now head off south across the fells; the views up the valley are truly amazing.  After a gentle ascent, we peak on Hut Knowe (359 Mt) (see Video at 3:10) where it is worth pausing to take in the views.

Our path now takes us over Whitestone Hill (395 Mt), where the magnificent views continue.  As we continue south, it is worth taking a small detour to the site of a fort (see Video at 4:00).  we now head back to our original path and have a gentle ascent to Thorny Hill before having a final push to Callaw Cairn (507 Mt) (see Video at 5:25).  Again it is worth taking some time to take on the 360o views.  From here we can see the path which will take us to the Pennine Way Route (see Video at 5:55).

Joining the Pennine Way Path we are now on the paving slabs (see Video at 6:05), which is good as there are many peat bogs along the path.  We followed the path for around 2 miles and pass Beefstand Hill (562 Mt) and Mozie Law (552 Mt) before we leave the Pennine Way and join The Street (see Video at 7:00).

The Street is the route of a Roman Road from Scotland into Northumberland.  The path of The Street makes for very pleasant walking.  The backdrop along the path changes and evolves and there are few ascents and descents, which makes for very rewarding walking.  As we continue along the route there is a small detour to another site of a fort (see Video at 10:10).  The route of The Street now descends and we have a dry stone wall ahead of us (see Video at 11:55).

As we leave The Street, our path now head south-west and we follow the route of Headshaw Hope.  This is a very gentle descent, where the views continue, to the conclusion of this lesser-trodden, tranquil and rewarding day in the hills.
