Turn by Turn Directions
This section starts in the village of Bamburgh, overlooked by the stunning and impressive Bamburgh Castle. It is worth taking some time to have a look around Bamburgh (Video 4:25), before heading out. Leaving Bamburgh with the castle on our left (Video 4:10), we head south down the road for a short distance before heading over the fields (Video 6:05). Following the route over the field, which are so tranquil, we get some great views across the NE coast (Video 7:15).
We arrive at Seahouses, where there are plenty of facilities if needed. We pass The Rescue (Video 8:35) before heading down to the harbour area. As we continue you have a good view of the Farne Islands (History available at Video 9:30). Continuing south we pass the golf course, and continue our route through Annstead Dunes, where there is plenty of nature to keep us company (Video 11:40).
Continuing south we head towards Beadnell and arrive at Limekilns and the Harbour (Video 14:10, the only harbour on the east coast to face west. Dropping down onto the beach we can follow the route through the dunes or trek along the beach for a while.
We now have a nice stroll into Bamburgh and the conclusion of the first stage, and the anticipation of what lies ahead in stage two. We come to a bridge over a small estuary of Long Nanny (Video 17:30), and continue through the dunes of Newton Links before reaching Football Hole (Video 18:20). Continuing along the headland we are welcomed by one of the most iconic views across the NE coast from Low Newton by the Sea towards Dunstanburgh Castle (Video 19:55). Refreshments are always available at The Ship in Low Newton, be careful you may never leave.
Our next section takes us through the dunes, passing the Low Newton Nature Reserve (Video 21:50). Continuing through the dunes we pass several huts on our way, with some stunning views, before passing Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Club, watch out for flying balls. Leaving Embleton Bay we have some great views of Dunstanburgh Castle, which has a long history (Video 24:35).
The conclusion of our walk at the harbour of Craster is in sight now (Video 25:25). This walk will leave you with so many amazing memories. I just wanted to turn around and walk the route again. This just fuels us with anticipation for what lies ahead on stage 3 of St Oswald’s Way
