Turn by Turn Directions

We start just north of Rochester in Northumberland (see start point link below), and immediately head up onto the fells (see Video at 1:50), passing our first Roman Camp Site.  We head towards the wooded area to our northwest.  Picking up Bellshield Road we pass our second Roman Camp Settlement (see Video at 3:20).  When following the Bellshield Road it is worth taking some time to take in the views, which we have to ourselves.

We leave the tarmac path and head west (see Video at 5:45), it is worth using the OS GPS to help as we head over the fells.  We cross the Bellshield Burn (see Video at 6:00) and ascent towards Dour Hill Trig Point (see Video at 6:55).  The views are worth savouring.  We now descend and head towards the woods.  When I undertook the walk Northumberland had just been hot by two named storms of 90mph+ winds, so many paths were blocked (see Video at 10:50).  Our path now takes to the main road (see Video at 11:40), and we need to head west.

Leaving the road (see Video at 13:20) we now head towards Hindhope Linn.  After crossing River Rede (see Video at 14:30), we follow the signs for Hindhope Linn and visit the waterfall (see Video at 15:45).  We retrace our path and pick up the route of the Pennine Way (see Video at 17:00).

Turning off the route of the Pennine Way (see Video at 17:50) we head over the fells to our second Trig Point of the walk at Blackwool Law, where the magnificent views continue (see Video at 19:40).  Leaving the Trig Point we descend towards the site of an ancient settlement (see Video at 21:00).  Our route now takes us along the River Rede.  NOTE the bridge on the OS Map after Woolaw does not exist.  We therefore take the bridge before the farm and conclude our walk with a brief walk along the road and the conclusion of a great day on the Northumberland Fells.
