Turn by Turn Directions
We leave Edmundbyers (Google PIN available on start point link below) heading east on the B6278 and turn right at the YHA heading down the track. You will notice some very tall carved figures on your right (Video 1:10). Continuing down the path we head into the fields and descend slightly, crossing a bridge on our way (Video 2:15). Then we come to a waterfall (Video 2:30), before continuing on our way south and up to West Cot House, and the single-track road, which we follow for a short while.
Following the side of the stone wall, we leave the single-track road and head for the fells. It doesn’t take long before we get some great views across Edmundbyers and onto Derwent Reservoir (Video 2:45). Continuing on our path we pass a disused Quarry site (Video 2:45). Then gently climb towards Lamb Shield Farm (Video 3:20) on our way to Stoterly Hill Trig Point (Video 4:00).
The next part of our walk is across the fells, we need to be careful with our navigation, as there are few reference points. Passing Harehope Head we approach Harehope Hill, with some great panoramic views, taking in Hisehope Reservoir and Smiddy Shaw Reservoir (Video 5:00). We now follow a track, which takes us to the B6278 (Video 7:30). We cross the road, and continue west, until we reach the bridge at the head of Feldon Burn (Video 8:10). We now head north following the burn, where we have the delights of some very tranquil walking. Passing Feldon Linn (Waterfall) (Video 8:50) and two further waterfalls (Video 10:00), before reaching the end of the valley.
As we head through the flat plains we come to Burnhope Burn. On the walk, I was unable to find the signed footbridge (Video 12:00). We now head across the flat plains towards two disused farm cottages, where we head up onto the fells. Again we need to be careful with our navigation. The best reference points are a set of Grouse Butts (Video 13:40). We then follow the track back to Edmundbyers, admiring the view across the valley, and taking in the route we have just walked (Video 14:15).
